About the event

"The rope you can trust," was the slogan used at the Plymouth Cordage Company.

The cordage company was founded by Bourne Spooner and opened in 1874 in north Plymouth.  It was a rather desolate area at the time, with few houses but Mr. Spooner had a vision.  He intended to employ happy workers with benfits such as low-cost housing and he had sidewalks built because his workers walked to work.  He was a socially conscious visionary who employed women and supported the abolitionist cause.

Come hear about the history of this important south shore business and the unique man who ran it.

Presented by Lucille Leary with the Cordage Park Museum and Liz Tracy, local activist and preservationist.
