About the event
The theme of this Open House is EXPLORATION SUNDAY! Bring the family and take a docent-led tour of the historic house with a mind toward exploring. Anything can be explored - select items from our collection in the house, the rooms themselves and even the walls...can you find any carvings in the wood? Do you see artwork? Which person, place or historical event is being portrayed?
We recently had the historic fireplaces restored and will be displaying the remnants of items we found which give us a glimpse into the past. What was cooked in these hearths? Samplers can offer a wealth of information on the woman or girl who sewed it and we have several on the parlor walls. Who made them and when?
After you visit the house, there is much to explore in our herb and perennial gardens. Identify plants and bugs and then hike the Wildlands Trust trail, which abuts the property. Wildlands Trust will be popping up at the Winslow House from 2-3:30 PM when Wildlands Trust staff and volunteers will be leading a 2.5 mile hike through Hoyt-Hall Preserve starting from the Winslow House Trail. We hope to see you there!
